Play a round of golf while enjoying the magnificent scenery of the Firth of Clyde; take to the water in a kayak, sailing dinghy or learn to sail at the National Water Sports Centre; cycle round the island on a bike, a tandem, a quad or a conference bike – or just sit back and watch the kids burn off their energy.

The Island of Great Cumbrae has a lot to offer visitors of all ages…
For kids it provides an environment where they can enjoy the fun of the safe, clean beaches, playparks and rockpools. It is also a cycle friendly island – bring your own or hire one from one of the three bike hire shops in the town. The Scottish National Sailing School is based on the island and offers a wide range of courses for canoeing, sailing, wind surfing and other water based activities.

The Newton Beach and Prom with the harbour and the Isle of Arran in the background.

Watch out for events at the Garrison and around the town.

There’s beach fun and water-sports for all ages
There is a ferry every 15 min in the summer months and a 30 minute service in winter. The journey from Largs take just 8.5 minutes and a bus service meets each ferry to transport you round to Millport town. You can check the ferry times at the CalMac site.
Millport boasts a good range of shops including a butcher, a deli (with fresh bread), a convenience store, newsagents, gift shops, chemist, beauticians, hairdressers and a laundry among many others. Eating out is also well catered for with restaurants, cafes, pubs and a bistro.
Or take it easy and just unwind…
Stroll along the Prom and do a spot of people watching, you’ll be surprised who you might meet. Watch the kids build sandcastles while you enjoy a carry out coffee. Find solitude in the Cathedral grounds or in the many quiet places on the island…and don’t forget the many places to eat out on the island.
